2 shots Gin
1 ½ shot Freshly squeezed lemon juice
½ shot sugar syrup
½ shot of Creme de Mure
Method: Stir gin, lemon juice and sugar syrup together and then strain in glass filled with crushed ice. Drizzle the creme de mure into the glass to create a bleeding effect as it slowly sinks to the bottom.
This is a really, really wonderful drink that has an excellent sweet/sour balance. I am aware of this recipe including the preparation method having changed from the book I first found this cocktail in. A more modern cocktail book (by the same author) gave a recipe that used less lemon (1 shot) and asked for the first 3 ingredients to be shaken rather than stirred. Either way, crushed ice is important to the nature of this drink as it changes the flavour through dilution as you drink it. Prepared in the way I’ve described gives the drink a varied quality as you sip it, with varying degrees of sweet, sour and fruitiness, slowly leading to more subdued refreshing drink as you finish it thanks to the melting ice.
